Greg Hughes has spent 20 years working both sides of the Australian workplace: the safety side, in mining, aviation, construction, transport and marine operations, and the people side - award coverage, wage compliance, contracts, industrial relations and disputes - for organisations from five employees to more than 1,000.

That combination is the point of WPG. Most consultancies sell HR or safety and subcontract the other. Greg holds Lead Auditor qualifications across ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (safety), and has built and run management systems from the ground up in some of the most heavily regulated industries in the country. The same discipline applies to the HR work: every classification, rate and clause is verified against the current award and legislation before advice is issued.

He has led safety and people functions through startups, restructures, regulator scrutiny and the ordinary daily grind of keeping a workforce paid correctly and sent home safe. He is comfortable in a boardroom and on a muddy site, and he writes advice a business owner can act on without a law degree.
